WHAT IS A CKD?

CKD® - Certified Kitchen Designer

Your kitchen should be as functional as it is aesthetically pleasing. Certified Kitchen Designer Shannon Davis Johnston has gone the extra mile in her professional preparation by earning her Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD) certification.

As CPAs are to accountants, CKDs are to kitchen designers.

To earn her CKD from the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA), a designation given to designers with a minimum of 7 years of experience designing residential kitchens, Shannon demonstrated exceptional skill in overall design, selection of appropriate products, and space planning. Shannon also showed evidence of her extensive knowledge of building codes, flooring materials, mechanical systems and appliance technologies. Additionally, Shannon passed a rigorous, 7-hour written and hands-on exam, ultimately meeting NKBA standards for knowledge and written communication and drawing of specifications and plans. That means she is highly skilled not only in kitchen design, but also in communicating design plans that are easily interpreted by the tradespeople—including plumbers, electricians and carpenters—who will also be working on your kitchen remodel.
